Welcome back to a new episode of Operation Be: The Podcast.
In this episode, I am going to talk about the importance of our basic human needs. I want to discuss the uncomfortable part of this topic, which is the fact that it IS okay to make your own needs more important than those of others, and that we should all stop pretending that we don’t matter most.
So often, especially for women, we are taught from a young age to take care of others. Think about it…most young girls will have their first job as a babysitter or caregiver, so from the start we are encouraged to diminish our own needs in an attempt to prioritize others.
I have learned through some pretty tough personal experience, that the longer we ignore our simple basic human needs like sleep, nutrition, hydration, and human connection, the more we risk our health in the long run. It really comes down to the ability for us to recognize our body’s cues, and understand when we really need to focus on “us” more, and less on others. Through my own journey of self awareness, I have come to truly believe that getting there is not hopeless…even if I have moments that feel that way.
I hope you enjoy the show!
